The field of microbiology has over the years grown into an exciting area of science in which students can learn to apply new and advanced technical approaches such as DNA fingerprinting, fluorescent and electron microscopy, and biosensor development, to explore the diversity of microorganisms, their make-up, functions as well as their relationships with other organisms and the environment. We offer both undergraduate and post-graduate courses in microbial biotechnology.
Students graduating at UKZN will have had exposure to different aspects of this field including:

The Discipline of Microbiology was established in
