We have excellent world class PhD programs in Biochemistry, Genetics or Microbiology
The purpose of our Biochemistry PhD graduate program in the Faculty of Science and Agriculture, is to produce broadly-trained, independent scientists with the ability to accomplish significant research.
For the PhD degree, students are expected to make an original contribution to an area of biochemistry research as determined by their course supervisor and to write a graduate thesis based on that research.
The research is completed with the guidance of a Biochemistry supervisor and may involve collaborations with students and scientists outside the department.
It is also a requirement to attend seminars on a wide range of subjects that are presented by fellow post-graduate students
Journal clubs within various research areas are also a requirement within each course supervisor’s field of research.
PhD students also participate as practical and tutorial demonstrators in the Department's teaching program, to acquaint students with education methods and provide important teaching experience.
Finally, PhD graduate students may also participate in the Department's teaching program which would further provide important teaching experience.
